The CEDA Grand Prix Awards for the design and build of hospitality and food service environments was hotly contested this year with more than 130 member companies competing for the top spot in the awards, held at The Belfry in September.
CHR and Ecochef’s entry for the ‘Design Project over £500k’ was Michael Wignall’s stunning new kitchen at the Angel at Hetton.
The design brief was to update the kitchen to our NOW ALMOST Famous Ecochef standards, Simply making the kitchen a great place to work, remove heat, improve consistency and provide a sustainable way forward the Angel at Hetton. Sounds Simple enough! But this is a 15th century building with a difficult history with years of planning and noise issues which was part of journey. Early feasibility studies picked up that insufficient power would be available, having to replace the substation at the Angel at Hetton would cost approximately 200k.
So for the very first time, CHR adapted the solution to work on energy optimisation to run the kitchen with the existing 120kWh board to manage peak loads. You can read our showcase of the project here.
